Union City Woman, 83, Killed in Hit-and-Run

Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident in Union City that claimed the life of an 83-year-old woman on Saturday evening, according to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Union City Police Department responded shortly after 5:40 p.m. to reports of a pedestrian struck near 30th Street and Palisades Avenue.

Officers arrived to find the victim, identified as Fabiola Bedoya of Union City, suffering from serious injuries.

Bedoya was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead just after 6:15 p.m. The driver involved in the crash did not remain at the scene.

As part of the initial investigation, authorities located a vehicle believed to be connected to the collision and identified a person of interest.

The investigation remains active.
