A city spokeswoman for Jersey City noted details of a two-vehicle crash that injured numerous pedestrians on Sunday, August 2. One of the injured individuals is an uniformed police officer.
Vehicle Hits Pedestrians
A vehicle allegedly driven by a drunk driver traveling on Ocean Avenue at allegedly excessive speeds hit another vehicle, and the impact sent it careening on to a sidewalk near Myrtle Avenue, according to NJ.com. A dozen individuals received medical treatment at the scene.
Numerous Victims Taken to Area Hospitals
Emergency personnel took the injured police officer to Jersey City Medical Center. A hospital spokesman said a total of seven people were transported to the medical center for treatment. Emergency personnel took three other people to Christ Hospital, although two of them refused treatment. The third person is in stable condition.
Motorist Faces Multiple Charges
Law enforcement arrested the 30-year-old motorist from Wegman Parkway, and NBC 4 News reported that officers handcuffed him and took him to an ambulance. He faces charges of driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and multiple counts of assault by motor vehicle.
